Don’t Drop The Soap

Color glicée archival prints

Growing up queer in rural America was a freeing and isolating time. Barred from living an authentic life, I hid away the most beautiful parts of myself. Repressing my identity, I gave into the slurs and harmful ‘jokes’ of my peers: being called gay before I could comprehend the meaning of the word, being shunned for painting nails as a child, and teased in school to not drop the soap for fear of being harassed. This body of work is a reclamation of my queerness and coming out to the world.

Absence

Gelatin silver prints

Memento mori: remember that you must die

My father's absence when I was young became a critical component in shaping and defining my perception of reality. To exist, one must be present, a state of being that demands time. This absence of time has led me to question what it means to exist and be present as a transient being, seeking ways to redefine my perception of reality. My fear of absence fuels my desire to preserve existence and fabricate immortality through the photograph.

Alternative Printing

Cyanotype and gum bichromate prints

Collection of custom prints that study and analyze the natural world. Each image was created using an alternative photographic printing process designed and used throughout the 19th century. The application of light-sensitive emulsions and the depth of pigmented color information combine to create an ever-changing image.
